Russia Launches Ground Offensive into Kharkiv
Russia has launched a cross-border ground offensive into Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and a high-ranking Ukrainian military source said Friday. “At approximately 5:00 a.m. the enemy attempted to break through our defense line under the cover of armored vehicles,” Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said.
A high-ranking Ukrainian military source said Russia had advanced into Ukraine by “one kilometer” and was trying to “create a buffer zone” to prevent attacks into Russian territory.
Dr. Youssef had predicted that Kharkiv would be one of the main axes through which Russia will attack Ukraine in Spring/Summer of 2024 in a study published on March 25, 2024.i
He argued that the Kharkiv axis would allow Russia to control the largest northeastern city in Ukraine and that the Ukrainians would face difficulties in defending the city because of its proximity to the Russian border. He added that controlling Kharkiv would open the way for Russian troops to march to Kyiv and surround it from the East.
