Between June 1967 and June 2025: Israel Dominates the Middle East

The Israeli war against Egypt, Jordan, and Syria in June 1967 lasted six days. In contrast, the war Israel waged on Iran in June 2025 extended over twelve days, twice as long. The consequences of the latter are expected to exceed those of the former many times over.

In the June 1967 war, Israel decimated the three Arab armies and seized Sinai and Gaza from Egypt, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the West Bank from Jordan. That war marked the end of the era of Arab nationalism and military regimes that had risen to power under nationalist ideology, the liberation of occupied lands, and resistance to colonialism – slogans that defined their public discourse. The defeat left behind profound strategic, political, social, and intellectual consequences that remain starkly visible to this day.
